THE REST OF MY RADIO SHOW COLLECTION
In addition to playing drums on Robert Plant’s first solo tour, Phil also smacked the skins with his friend Eric Clapton on his AUGUST Tour, and played several other shows with Clapton in ’86, ’87 and ’88. (Collins also played one gig with Clapton on the BEHIND THE SUN Tour in late 1985 at the Guildford Civic Hall in Guildford, UK, but this hardly counts as playing on the tour itself.)
The AUGUST Tour shows were not consistent shows as Genesis was also on the road for their hugely successful INVISIBLE TOUCH Tour during most of this time. The tour itself was documented on the official Clapton video release entitled ERIC CLAPTON & FRIENDS 1986, which was recorded at the National Exhibition Center (NEC) in Birmingham, UK in July of ’86. I have this item on VHS and DVD. There was also an official video release from the Montreux Jazz Festival, also in July ’86, and I have that as well. You can see scans of these official releases below.
As for radio broadcasts, while there were no radio shows featuring Phil from that one BEHIND THE SUN Tour show, there was one (and only one) of the AUGUST Tour shows that was recorded and released on pre-FM vinyl. This was recorded at the same concert that made up the official video release from the NEC, mentioned above. There are two known versions of this broadcast show. That said, I have never actually seen any copies firsthand. The information for each is listed on this page.
If you have any information regarding any other pre-FM Clapton shows, please Contact Me.
Here is a complete listing of all known Eric Clapton featuring Phil Collins radio broadcast shows recorded during this period:
Super Groups In Concert (Version I):
ABC Rock Radio Networks Records
Recorded live at The National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, UK: 15 July 1986
Original Broadcast – Unknown Month/Day
pre-FM Double Vinyl LP
This is the first of two known radio broadcast shows from the AUGUST Tour. The show was produced by the ABC Rock Radio Networks under their Super Groups In Concert banner. In fact, both shows were provided by ABC.
The show is hosted by Joe Benson, who would later come to identify himself as “Uncle” Joe Benson, but the exact broadcast date is unknown. The show contains tracks from the concert that was filmed and later released as the official video ERIC CLAPTON & FRIENDS 1986. That said, there is far more material on this broadcast than on the video release. (You can see scans of that official release, along with the concert recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival on 10 July 1986 to the right of this entry.)
I don’t have this item in my personal collection; information obtained from a torrent listing on Simon’s site.

Super Groups In Concert (Version II):
ABC Rock Radio Networks Records
Recorded live at The National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, UK: 15 July 1986
Original Broadcast – Unknown Month/Day
pre-FM Double Vinyl LP
The only other known radio broadcast show from the AUGUST Tour was again provided by the ABC Rock Radio Networks under their Super Groups In Concert banner.
The show is again hosted by Joe Benson, but the exact broadcast date is unknown. This show is distinctly different from the above listed show, with different DJ intros, song listing and end credits. The show again contains tracks from the concert that was filmed and later released as the official video ERIC CLAPTON & FRIENDS 1986.
I don’t have this item in my personal collection; information obtained from a torrent listing on Simon’s site.
