PHIL COLLINS RADIO INTERVIEW SPECIALS – Various Dates
GENESIS RADIO INTERVIEW SPECIALS – Various Dates
While the previous pages on this site detailed the complete Phil Collins Transcription Radio Shows, along with the PC and Genesis Radio Interview Shows, I do have many other similar shows from a number of other bands and artists in my collection. This page will detail all of the remaining shows that I have in my personal collection, both interview specials and concert broadcasts. This is not meant to be a definitive listing of all of the known shows from each band or artists, as was the case with the PC and Genesis shows, this is simply a place to find details of other shows that I have purchased. Perhaps you will find some information herein that will be helpful. I truly hope so.
And as an aside, you may have noticed on the previous pages (and on this page as well) that I sometimes use the narrative descriptions from Discogs in my descriptions here. That is because in almost every case, I was the original submitter of the items on Discogs. Especially the Genesis and Phil Collins material. When I joined Discogs, most of these radio transcription shows did not exist on the site. Thus, it fell to me to add them. So I am not plagiarizing when I utilize those notes, I am simply copying what I originally provided to that site. If you have any questions about the shows listed here, please reach out to me via the Contact Me page.
*One Note: On this page you will find every Genesis radio transcription concert show that I own. Unlike the Phil Collins concerts, these shows are not listed elsewhere on this site because, as mentioned in the Complete Phil Collins Radio Guide, Dave Dunnington has done a fantastic job of cataloging all of the Genesis shows on his site. You can see that list HERE. I am not intending to be redundant by listing some of those same shows here. Again, I am simply cataloging the shows that I have in my collection. So let’s get started…
The Eagles
King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents A Conversation With The Eagles #C-307:
D.I.R. Broadcasting Records
Unknown recording date
Original Broadcast –
Week of 23 March 1980
pre-FM Triple Vinyl LP
The folks at King Biscuit and nationally syndicated DJ Dave Herman present an interview with The Eagles regarding their career and their latest release (at that time) EAGLES LIVE. Unlike most Biscuit shows, this is not a live concert recording, rather, it’s an “intimate” discussion featuring Don Felder, Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit. All five members of the band are interviewed by Herman. Contains original commercial blocks and DJ introductions by Herman.

King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents A Conversation With Bob Seger #BOB 309:
D.I.R. Broadcasting Records
Unknown recording date

Another Biscuit “conversation” release with Host Dave Herman. Here, Herman presents an interview with Bob Seger regarding his career and his latest release (at that time) AGAINST THE WIND. Unlike most Biscuit shows, this is not a live concert recording. As noted during the broadcast, the interview segments were originally recorded in July of 1979. Contains original commercial blocks and DJ introductions by Herman. Side D is blank.

King Biscuit Flower Hour #KB 312 (Elvis Costello Label Misprint):
D.I.R. Broadcasting Records
Unknown recording date
Original Broadcast –
Week of 27 April 1980
pre-FM Double Vinyl LP
King Biscuit captured The Stones on two of their North American tours for this double vinyl release. As will most Biscuit shows, Side D is blank. The labels for this set were misprinted, identifying the artist as Elvis Costello & The Attractions. D.I.R. Broadcasting had to therefore apologize that the label was printed in error and that the label should read ‘The Rolling Stones.’ Because of this misprint, this set is extremely valuable and hard to find. My copy did not come with any of the original paperwork, which can be seen in the Discogs listing.

Unknown recording date
Original Broadcast –
Week of 27 July 1980
pre-FM Double Vinyl LP
New York radio disc jockey Scott Muni leads a “round table” discussion with several well known disc jockeys from across the United States and the members of The Rolling Stones for a King Biscuit Flower Hour 90 minute radio special. As with the above listed A CONVERSATION WITH BOB SEGER show, this is also not a live concert recording. The disc jockeys present are Mark Parenteau from WBCN in Boston, (who was later sentenced to three years in federal prison for sexual child abuse, and who passed away in 2016), Norm Winer from WXRT in Chicago (who quit being a DJ in 2016 after 37 years at WXRT), Tempi Lindsey from KTXQ in Dallas, Jack Snyder from KMET in Los Angeles and Charlie Kendall from WMMR in Philadelphia (who later appeared as a regular host of Westwood One’s Superstar Concert Series). The entire group met at the WNEW studios in New York, where they all sat around a table drinking, smoking, telling stories and asking / answering questions from the various DJs. Some questions from “fans” are also presented, but no call-in audience members are present. One can actually hear cigarette lighters clicking, beer cans popping open and being poured, and glasses clinking throughout the show. Tracks from the most recent Stones album at the time, EMOTIONAL RESCUE, were also featured during the show. Original commercial blocks are also included.

ABC Radio Networks Records
Unknown recording date
Original Broadcast –
Unknown Month / Day 1980
pre-FM Double Vinyl LP
A two-hour radio show featuring interviews, songs and historical notes about the band. Host Kris Erik Stevens, an ABC Radio Networks DJ for many years, provides historical notes between the interview segments and songs. Includes interviews with Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Don Felder, Joe Walsh, Jackson Browne, Bob Seger and Elektra / Asylum Records Chairman of the Board Joe Smith. No commercials are included on this set, and unlike most radio shows on vinyl, this set has Sides A and B on one LP, along with Sides C and D on the second LP. (Usually double LP radio shows were set up as Sides A and C on one LP, and Sides B and D on the second LP to allow DJs to play the sides continuously.) Note that Side B does not contain the 700 Hz Tone Locked Groove used for balancing the audio levels prior to broadcast, but Sides A, C and D do. (Side D actually has two such “tones”, one at the beginning of the side and one prior to the Promo spots.)

A double-bill King Biscuit show with segments previously aired on radio stations across the U.S. The venues for each performance are not specifically mentioned by regular contributor and host Bill Minkin. He does, however, mention the cities for each show. A little investigating reveals that the Dire Straits portion was recorded at The Old Waldorf during their first tour of the States. The Loverboy segment was most likely recorded at the Vancouver Coliseum (later renamed the Pacific Coliseum) on 3 August 1980. Contains original commercial blocks and two sections of extended silence for local station announcements.

Original Broadcast –
Week of 31 October 1981
pre-FM Triple Vinyl LP
This radio show is a mix of live cuts, interview segments and studio tracks featuring The Rolling Stones, who went out on the road in September of 1981 in support of the album TATTOO YOU. (This was to be the last tour of the United States the Stones would do until 1989.) This set was therefore released to U.S. radio stations to promote the tour. D.I.R., who produced the show in association with ABC Radio Networks, are the people behind King Biscuit. Most of the live tracks on this set were not recorded during the 1981 tour, however, these tracks were culled from previous shows recorded by D.I.R. Several of the concerts throughout the tour were captured and selected songs were released on the 1982 live album STILL LIFE (AMERICAN CONCERT 1981).

Yellow Mello Yello Label Version
This radio show is the first of many versions of the set from the Nassau Coliseum in 1981 that I own. It is also the most complete set from the Nassau Coliseum concert, with the only significant omission being Turn It On Again, found on other Westwood One radio shows and the THREE SIDES LIVE album and video.
Dodo / Lurker, Abacab, Misunderstanding, Turn It On Again, Follow You, Follow Me, the In The Cage Medley and Behind The Lines can all be found on the THREE SIDES LIVE official live album ad video release. Partially recorded at The Nassau Coliseum in New York on 29 November 1981, (with the exception of Man On The Corner, No Reply At All and probably Misunderstanding which were most likely captured at The Savoy Club in New York City on 28 November 1981). Behind The Lines usually segued directly into Duchess when performed live, (and indeed it does so on THREE SIDES LIVE) however, this recording utilizes a quick fade out as Duchess begins and the song slips directly into No Reply At All. Lastly, Follow You, Follow Me was recorded at the Lyceum Ballroom in London on 7 May 1980.
Another version of this same set was pressed with green labels and sponsored by Sprite soda instead of Mello Yello. That show is listed directly below.

Later during the Mama Tour, Genesis played at the L.A. Forum for three nights commencing on 12 January 1984. Portions of these shows were recorded by Westwood One and sent to radio stations in the U.S for broadcast in April of that year. During this particular show, Phil says “It’s Saturday night and we’re going to have some fun…” pinpointing the 14th as one of the nights used for this recording. Illegal Alien and It’s Gonna Get Better from 14 January show have turned up on the ARCHIVE #2 1976-1992 box set, however, since the version of It’s Gonna Get Better on this set differs from that of Archive box set, we now know that the radio show version is from 13 January. King Biscuit Flower Hour – The Mama Tour Two Part Special #KB 524 / 525:
D.I.R. Broadcasting Records
Recorded Live at The Spectrum, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania:
27 November 1983
Original Broadcast –
Part I: 20 May 1984
Part II: 27 May 1984
pre-FM Quadruple Vinyl LP
This is the first of four Mama Tour shows recorded at The Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that I have in my collection.
On their hugely successful Mama Tour, Genesis played three consecutive nights at The Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; 25 – 27 November 1983. The third night was recorded by King Biscuit, with 110 minutes of this concert having been broadcast by King Biscuit over two consecutive Flower Hour shows on consecutive weekends in May of 1984 The material is certainly different from the CAPTURED LIVE! recording sourced from the previous night, 26 November. (That show is listed below.) The mix on this show is a little heavier on bass and audience noise, making for a fuller experience. A shortened version of this show was also broadcast by King Biscuit in September of 1984 as a Best Of show, listed below.

CAPTURED LIVE!
#CL 2684 / 2784:
RKO Radio Networks Records
Recorded Live at The Spectrum, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania:
26 November 1983
Original Broadcast –
Part I: 23 July 1984
Part II: 30 July 1984
pre-FM Quadruple Vinyl LP
Radio show producers RKO recorded 100 minutes from the second of the three 1983 dates at this venue for broadcast as part of their CAPTURED LIVE! series. This show aired over two consecutive weekends on U.S. radio stations, with DJ Jim Ladd hosting and no commercial blocks presented on the vinyl itself.
The running order of the songs gets jumbled at the end, with RKO choosing to place Misunderstanding and Illegal Alien after the show’s actual closer, Turn It On Again, thus creating a false encore. Presented on translucent vinyl. These transcription LPs are very hard to find.

#CL 4184:
RKO Radio Networks Records
Recorded Live at The Spectrum, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania:
26 November 1983
Original Broadcast –
5 November 1984
pre-FM Double Vinyl LP
After RKO produced the quadruple LP, two consecutive weekend broadcast of this show back in July of the same year, they then put out an abbreviated two LP edition concentrating mainly on the hits. This double LP set was presented on translucent vinyl and – for a change – did contain commercial blocks. Jim Ladd hosted this show as well, and, as with the two-part presentation, the running order of the songs gets jumbled at the end, with RKO again choosing to place Misunderstanding and Illegal Alien after the show actual closer, Turn It On Again, thus creating a false encore.

Westwood One Radio Networks Records
Unknown recording date
Original Broadcast –
Late January / Early February 1985
pre-FM Double Vinyl LP
Another in the OTRSP series of shows featuring U2. This time Mary Turner interviews Adam Clayton and The Edge about the band’s politics, touring and their latest album (at that time) THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE. Includes live tracks from the UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY album, along with studio tracks from several other albums and original commercial blocks. As to the estimated broadcast date, my copy did not come with a Cue Sheet which would have listed the exact date. Investigation revealed that Show # 85-01 on Discogs has an image of a Cue Sheet, and that show aired between 31 December 1984 and the first week of January 1985. Therefore, this show, which is Show # 85-05, should have aired about four weeks later. Released on translucent vinyl.
This show is not currently listed on Discogs.
